New Cookbook: Peralta – Story, Food and Photos from North Tuscany

Today Trine Hahnemann has a new cookbook coming out in English, Peralta – Story, Food and Photos from North Tuscany by Trine Hahnemann and Lars Ranek.

It all begins with Trine Hahnemann’s love affair with Peralta in 2004. It was Trine’s family’s first visit, and ever since she dreamed of writing a cookbook about her beloved Italian getaway.

The book shares Trine’s own Italian recipes with a Nordic touch along with secret traditional recipes from the locals, all caught by Lars Ranek’s lens in beautiful authentic photos throughout the book.

The book also includes some of the characteristic people involved with food in the area. Meet the Lunardi family, owners of the nearest grocery and greengrocery shop in Pieve, who bake their own cantuccini, bread, cakes and lots of other delicious Italian specialities; the shepherd from Casoli and his wife who make pecorino and ricotta; the sausage and salami maker from Nochi; the formidable Rita of Casoli and her tordelli and the list goes on.

Peralta is truly an inspirational place, dating back to the 14th century. It’s not an easy place, but a hamlet of paradoxes and layers and layers of history. It is the essence of Italy, a secret settlement in the middle of civilization.
